The 3-3-3 Rule for Cats

May 15, 2026

Bringing home a new cat? Patience is everything.

Many cats need time to feel safe, comfortable, and truly at home. That’s where the 3-3-3 rule comes in!

 First 3 Days:

Your cat may feel scared, hide, avoid eating much, or stay very quiet.

Everything is new and overwhelming. Give them a calm, safe space and let them adjust at their own pace.

 First 3 Weeks:

Your cat starts learning the routine, becoming more comfortable, and showing their personality. You may notice more playfulness, affection, and curiosity.

 First 3 Months:

This is when many cats fully settle in and begin to truly feel at home. Trust builds, bonds deepen, and their real personality shines through.

Every cat adjusts differently — some need more time,

especially shy or previously traumatized cats. The key is patience,

consistency, and love.

  • Remember: You’re not just giving a cat a home… you’re giving them security, comfort, and a fresh start.
