Water is a Critical Nutrient

Water is a critical nutrient for cats. Access to fresh water is needed. It is important for digestion, moving nutrients throughout the body and excretion. Cats can become very sick if they do not have enough water. Issues like dehydration and constipation can occur as well as kidney and urinary tract issues.

To encourage water intake:

• Ensure fresh water is always available
• Use a pet fountain to entice your cat to drink more
• Switch to wet food as it contains more moisture than dry food

Cats can usually survive three to four days without water. However, dehydration can occur in about a day or two. If your cat isn’t drinking contact your vet since this could be a serious medical condition.
