F.I.P (Feline Infectious Peritonitis)
March 26, 2026 | Tammy Manka
FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) is something no cat
parent ever wants to hear—but awareness can save lives.
FIP is a serious disease caused by a mutation of the feline
coronavirus. It often affects young cats, and symptoms can be hard to spot at first.
Watch for things like:
• Persistent fever
• Loss of appetite
• Weight loss
• Lethargy
• Swollen belly or fluid buildup
Here’s the hopeful part: FIP is no longer an automatic death
sentence. With early diagnosis and access to treatment, many cats are now surviving and thriving.
If you notice something “off” with your cat, trust your
instincts and reach out to your veterinarian right away. Early action matters.
Let’s keep spreading awareness, supporting each other, and giving our cats the best chance possible. ✨
