Is My Cat Fat?

October 3, 2024

Did you ever wonder why your cat has the underbelly flab that tends to swing when they walk?

All cats have them, but they will vary in size. It’s what’s known as the primordial pouch, and it serves three purposes.

The first is that it protects a cat’s organs if they get into a fight. It adds an extra layer of protection.

The second it gives them more flexibility.

Third, it is a spot to store food after a big meal.

In all the primordial pouch is a comb of skin, fur and fat that runs the length of the cat’s belly.
